Personal Info

Welcome to the personal homepage of Vincent Danen. The purpose of this site is to collect various bits of different things that I do; it's too painful to maintain a lot of websites these days, and I have a number of projects on the go. If you are interested in some software that I have written or maintain, please visit their appropriate web pages:

  • Anthill; a PHP-based bug tracking system similar to Bugzilla
  • Annvix; an in-progress secure Linux server distribution, originally based on Mandrake Linux 9.2
  • rpmhelp; a repository of alternate RPM packages for Mandrake Linux (please note that the repository still exists for those who need it and are interested in it, but it is no longer being maintained; the last "supported" version of Mandrake Linux is 9.2 for these packages)
  • linsec; an online Wiki-based documentation system for items related to security and system/server administration on Linux, OS X, and other *BSD systems

The purpose of this site is to give a little information and insight on myself (for those who care or are interested), and to collect various little things that I have done that don't really fit with the other sites. For instance, I used to do a lot of writing for TechRepublic before they were taken over by CNET (back when they carried a lot more Linux content). A number of the articles I wrote were reviews on various products; some of those works are re-published here, with permission. Some articles I wrote for (the now defunct) MandrakeSecure website are also available here; those deemed to old or irrelevant for the linsec website. I also continue to do product and book reviews, and those will be published here as well. Some of the original content I wrote for the original "Freezer Burn" website is also available here.

This site is also home of the Mandrakelinux Community wiki, which I host on behalf of the Mandrake community. There is a lot of good information on that wiki, although control of the wiki is largely performed by Anne Wilson; I merely host the site and do whatever maintenance is required to keep it running.

If you are interested in the consulting services I provide, please visit the Danen Consulting Services website.

What's New

Briefly, this lists what new things I've added to the website:

  • 08/24/2004: I've reviewed the book "Hardening Linux" published by McGraw-Hill/Osborne
